The DJI RS Intelligent Tracking Module is a small add‑on for the RS 4, RS 4 Pro, and RS 4 Mini gimbals that gives them built‑in AI subject tracking without needing a phone or camera tracking system.
What it does
Attaches to the top/front of the gimbal and uses its own camera plus the gimbal’s ActiveTrack to recognize and follow human subjects from up to about 10 m / 32.8 ft away.
Keeps a person framed while you move the gimbal or the subject moves, making solo shooting, vlogging, and live streaming much easier.
Supports different moves like orbit shots, POV/selfie shots, and backward follow shots while maintaining composition on the subject.
Key features
Magnetic quick‑release mount with a locking clip; it snaps onto RS 4 Mini, RS 4, and RS 4 Pro and weighs only about 19 g.
Trigger and hand‑gesture control (e.g., start/stop tracking, start/stop recording, and framing adjustments with specific gestures).
Can switch between “center subject” and “keep current framing” composition modes in the ActiveTrack settings on the gimbal.
Can differentiate people in multi‑subject scenes so you can select and keep tracking one person in a group.
Basic use workflow
Mount it magnetically to the marked position on the RS 4 series gimbal and power on the gimbal; the indicator light shows status (green, yellow, red depending on mode/update).
In the gimbal menu, go to ActiveTrack / tracking settings, choose your composition mode, then select your subject on the screen or use the configured gesture to start tracking.
For firmware updates, connect the module to a computer via USB‑C, copy the firmware file from DJI’s site to the module, then reconnect so it can auto‑update.
When it’s useful
Solo creators and wedding/event shooters who want moving, professional‑looking shots without a camera operator.
Static camera setups (on a stand, monopod, or tripod with gimbal) where the camera still needs to follow someone on stage, in a studio, or during live streams.
Run‑and‑gun or travel creators using the RS 4 Mini who want simple, reliable tracking for walking/talking shots.
